    Tuesday March 13, 2012 11:00pm - 11:40pm @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)

“Whenever Boston’s delinquent nephew Worcester comes up in conversation, we can’t help but form the mental image of some sort of devastated city-scape straight out of an arcade beat-em-up, ala Final Fight or Streets of Rage, where everyone just goes around supplexing each other and eating chicken legs off the ground. While this is likely untrue, and undoubtedly insulting, in our defense, SynthRock heros HERRA TERRA aren’t really helping things by making the perfect sort of music to spin-kick by."

G. Green
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 8:20pm - 8:55pm @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)

    G. Green is and has been the musical project of a one Mr. Andrew Henderson. He released a 7" in 2009 as a solo weirdfolk project under the G. Green moniker. He drafted a band at the end of 2009 and the lineup has gone thru a myriad of changes before becoming the permanent line up you see here. G. Green play quick and fast, or sometimes becomes more melodic and groovy. The band might be best compared to current rock n rollers Tyvek or Wounded Lion. Caterwauling poppy punk (not pop punk!) played LOUD.

James Arthur's Manhunt
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 10:00pm - 10:35pm @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)
The James Arthur's Manhunt LP was a record I wish people would have talked about more, including myself. Great record, great band, great dude. JA always seems to be standing just slightly in the shadows, out of the spotlight enough where you have to make an effort to see him. I think it's on purpose. But those who do choose to look outside the hype-sters and flavors-of-the-minute reap the rewards here, from a legendary player on the garage rock scene for many years. From Fireworks to Necessary Evils, to another greatly underappreciated band/record via A Feast of Snakes, to the OG line-up of Golden Boys and other peripheral acts from the Texas and Memphis scenes, the guy has an impeccable catalog behind him. Arthur is in full-on Texan Hawkwind mode here, wrapping one track around both sides in swirlingly psychedelic fashion: steady drum drive (from OBNIII, this guy is fucking everywhere!), quasi-dimensional guitar exploration, oscillating vocals. This was made for a freakout backed by a liquid light show and a tab or two. A meaty single that has me craving for another LP's worth of streched out blasters like this.(RK)

    Thursday March 15, 2012 1:20am - 1:55am @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)

For the past few years, Puffy Areolas have been fritzing synapses and scorching the landscape with their corroded psych / hardcore scree. Enlightened by the most unhinged charters of Acid Archives and Killed by Death alumnus, the Puffies' sound might best be described as embodying the Stooges' Raw Power if your pretty face had gone to hell. There, it would have encountered (among others) White Boy and The Average Rat Band, Tampax, Opus and Mag Amplitude for an eternal damnation of scarred depravity, the excesses of which would be legendary even by Hades standards. -Siltbreeze

Broncho
    Thursday March 15, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)
Harkening back to punk rock’s glory days of the 70s, Oklahoma outfit BRONCHO captures the aggression, DIY authenticity and youthful exhilaration of a bygone era and then drags it by the hair into the Here and Now, creating a fresh sound that’s unlike anything being played today. With echoes of The Replacements, Iggy and the Stooges and The Ramones, BRONCHO’s exuberant ten song debut Can’t Get Past the Lips is a blisteringly cathartic flash of gritty, crunching guitar work supported by an assaultive rhythm section and made whole by songwriter Ryan Lindsey’s aggressive, yelping vocal work.

Allah-Las
    Thursday March 15, 2012 10:00pm - 10:40pm @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)

Greil Marcus liked to refer back to “The Old, Weird America” when discussing a certain famous set of recordings that emanated from a Woodstock cabin basement. ALLAH-LAS sound like the Old, Weird Los Angeles: Strains of true surfing music, American harmonies, Sunset Strip backbeat, desert ramble filtered through Goldstar Sessioneers; That pre-fuzz pedal ‘electrified folk’ music and pop groups hitting that California sound with the tambourine on just the right beat. When you hear it, you see things — Venice’s arches lit at night with the ocean in the distance; mid-century hamburger stands and slow-moving main drags in residential nights; Teen-age revues at 400 person ballrooms; Ferus Gallery beatniks; bungalows in canyons; hidden deco stairsteps peeking from leafy hillsides; kustom kars and dovetails and chicks in OP shorts with long, long hair. Like a Dennis Hopper photo come to life. You look at their well worn Fender guitars, their real surfer tans, their dusty suede boots - and you see it’s a sound natural to them; This isn’t an act. - Nick Waterhouse (PRES records)

The Growlers
    Friday March 16, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)

The growlers are a rock and pop group formed in long beach California in 2006 who are yet to became one of the most commercially successful and critically acclaimed bands in the history of popular music. During their years of stardom yet to come, the band consists of Brooks Nielsen (vocals) Scott Montoya(drums), Matt Taylor(lead guitar, vocals) and Kyle Straka (keyboards, guitars.) They were managed by their own alter ego Epstein until his death in 2009. Although their initial musical style was rooted in 1960s rock and roll and skiffle, the group works with different musical genres, ranging from ice flossing hip hop to psychedelic rock. Their clothes, style and statements have made them trend-setters. While their growing social awareness saw their influence extend into the social and cultural revolutions. During the release of their first album and their ongoing singles releases, they have experimented with recording techniques that have the ability to bend sound in ways only drugs can. By now this “bent sound” has been perfected in their live act that some onlookers call “groovy” and or “sick”. The groovy unexcelled value in Lo fidelity sound is their stock and trade. They are the result of a combination of skilled modern engineering techniques and the very finest outdated recording and amplified equipment. The Growlers sound is best exemplified through Nielsen’s cryptic lyrics and the relationship it has with matt Taylor. As if the two are each other’s half. Though they complete each other, they compel and challenge one another in ways only the frequent growler fan can truly understand. Perhaps it is what the growler fan feels while taking part in the drug wave of bent sound. -ALEX KNOST

Holy Grail
    Saturday March 17, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)
When it comes to ripping young metal bands, few—perhaps none—rip harder than HOLY GRAIL. Formed in Southern California in 2008 when vocalist James Paul Luna and drummer Tyler Meahl escaped from Pasadena metal squadron White Wizzard and teamed up with San Diegan guitar hero Eli Santana, the band was called Sorcerer until it became clear that the moniker didn’t quite capture the rarefied nature of the members’ collective talents. So Sorcerer became HOLY GRAIL. And HOLY GRAIL became so unstoppable that California just couldn’t contain them. And now, like their spiritual forefathers in Iron Maiden, Judas Priest and Dio, HOLY GRAIL are poised to bring their hook-laden shred anthems to an arena near you.

Sonic Avenues
    Saturday March 17, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ Valhalla (710 Red River St)
SONIC AVENUES are just four Montreal kids who started riffing punk tunes in 2006, but since getting swept up in the booming punk epicentre of neighbouring Ottawa, they've been catapulted into the ranks of the best pop-punk acts in Canada. After releasing a few singles, SA dropped a bomb in late 2009 with their debut LP on Ottawa's infamous Going Gaga Records. Within a few short months, the record had sold-out twice, including a European repress by Germany’s fine Taken By Surprise and Sabotage Records. Two years later, after obliterating eardrums from stages across North America and Europe, they returned home to record a crushing follow-up, TELEVISION YOUTH, for prestigious Portland-based label DIRTNAP RECORDS. Featuring more of the over-driven guitars, infectious harmonized melodies and blazing 2-3 minute songs that powered their debut, SA have nonetheless pushed the limits into new territories with this latest offering. In short, Television Youth is punkier, poppier, louder and dirtier than anything they've done before. Armed with this devastating new arsenal, as well as ambitious touring plans spanning the (un)civilized world, SONIC AVENUES are sure to keep fists in the air and beers a-flyin' well into 2013 and beyond.
