DVA
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 9:00pm - 9:40pm @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

The acoustic-electric sibling duo Dva was founded in the spring of 2006 in small town near to Hradec Kralove. Now they operate in Pardubice and Hradec Králové. They characterize themselves as Pop of non-existent radios. This spirit is also mirrored in their third album HU. During their four years of existence they performed more than 250 concerts in the Czech Republic and abroad (Réunion, Slovakia, Russia, France, Norway, Spain, Germany, Italy, Serbia, Austria, Poland, Hungary…). They accompany live the theater performances of dance group VerTeDance – Emigrantes, silent movie The Cabinet of Dr. Caligary (in 2008 under film festival Project 100) and short movies by Georges Méliés. They also cooperated with Teater DNO, Theater Husa na Provázku and Theater Dejvice. Currently the duo works on music for documentary films by V. Klusák: Vše pro dobro světa a Nošovic/All for the Good of the World and Nošovice and M. Ryšavý’s documentary Medvědí ostrovy/Bear Islands. In 2007 the duo founded their own “kitchen” (DIY) label called HomeTable where they publish local albums (Kollektt8). In 2008 the album of ringtones called Ringtones for Mobile Uphones was released and is freely downloadable on the label’s site Surreal Madrid.
The third album of the duo Dva bears the name of HU (short for Hungary, or fifth most common surname in the world, an ancient Egyptian first word for “god” or a kind of goat). But in their language, for Dva it also means the first syllable pronounced by a human being as well as the sound of monkeys and owls. After the previous concept of folklore of non-existing nations with which they worked on the album Fonók (2008, Indies Scope), Dva come with the concept of pop of non-existing radios. For collaboration on this album they again chose the Berlin producer Jayrope. This year they're finished soundtrack for click&point adventure game Botanicula (Amanita Design company) and they have nomination on Independent Games Festival for music.

Emperor X
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 11:00pm - 11:40pm @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

Emperor X is a pop/noise/folk music project headed by American songwriter and sound artist C. R. Matheny. A former high school science teacher, he dropped out of a graduate physics program in 2004 to focus on music. Over the next eight years, he released a string of critically-acclaimed lo-fi speed folk and grabbed the attention of writers at NPR, Pitchfork, The New Yorker, the Los Angeles Times, The Huffington Post, Said the Gramophone, and dozens of other music blogs. Reviewers compared Matheny's tracks to The Microphones, Black Dice, and early Modest Mouse. Salon.com ranked his Bar/None Records release _Western Teleport_ among the most overlooked albums of 2011 and termed his music "wonderfully bizarre...[and] triumphant in its deep empathy and humanity."

Talkdemonic
    Thursday March 15, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

Portland, Oregon duo Kevin O'Connor and Lisa Molinaro create lush and evocative instrumental soundscapes under the name Talkdemonic. Formed in 2003, Talkdemonic began as Kevin's pursuit for new frontiers in percussion and analog sound. Lisa joined Kevin shortly thereafter, further shaping Talkdemonic's innovative style with her rich viola and cello arrangements. Talkdemonic released their 2004 début Mutiny Sunshine on Lucky Madison Records. In 2006, Kevin and Lisa went on to sign with Arena Rock Recording Co., releasing both Beat Romantic and Eyes At Half Mast, and garnering critical attention for their ability to pioneer the marriage of strings with unyieldingly strong percussion and inescapable harmony.
The bands fourth record Ruins finds them continuing to expand, stretching dynamic range from quiet brooding to all out distorted assault. Molinaro's scenic melodies accompany the ever present forward motion of O'Connor's steady beats. With a little help from Clay Jones and Isaac Brock in the mixing room this is Talkdemonic's most well composed and realized work to date.

At times impetuous yet palliative, Talkdemonic's sound captures the universally intangible, what we wish to say but cannot find words, a surge and a calm, instrumental modern music at its finest.

Japanese Gum
    Thursday March 15, 2012 10:00pm - 10:40pm @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

Japanese Gum is an experimental psychedelic Italian duo originally from Genova born in the spring of 2005.
The band consists now of Davide Cedolin, Paolo Tortora, with some live collaborators and performers.
JG music is characterized by wall of echoed sounds, hypnotic vocals, electronic glitch beats mixed with natural drums and live loops, but it’s not right to define their sound into a specific kind: the band is always looking for new developments and different sound solutions; from the first release “Talking. Silently e.p.” (Marsiglia Records), focused on an ambient-glitch type of soundscapes, to “Without you I’m napping”, oriented to massive shoegazing guitars melted with psychedelic obsessive loops and first real percussions ever.
During the sessions for the first full-lenght, Japanese Gum put some unreleased tracks/versions together with few friends’ remixes into “Lost in weirdness” (remixes by Isan, Die Stadt der Romantische Punks, Eniac…) released for the Turin based label Chew-Z.
The full-lenght album “Hey Folks! Nevermind, we are all falling down” has been released in september 2009 by the japanese label Friend of Mine records, and it’s a perfect balanced combo of liquid atmosphere, droning guitars, suspended vocals, electronic patterns and real drums; many featuring on this album, such Freddie and Chiara Lee from Father Murphy and Blown Paper Bags. On september 2010 some new stuff: "End Of Summer e.p." has been free released on the band website and then also published as 200 handmade 3"CDR edition featuring Daniele Carretti from Offlaga Disco Pax, Stark Vision Of The Morning and Greta Liscio from Still Leven. After the European tour that crossed Slovenia, Czech Republic, Slovakia, Germany, Norway, Denmark and France, during November 2010, Japanese Gum started to work on new compositions that will be included into two new releases expected for 2011/2012, one e.p. and the second full-lenght, "High Dreams", produced by Scott Colburn (Animal Collective, Arcade Fire, Sun City Girls, Prince Rama).
By the years, Japanese Gum has toured and played with artists such Victory at Sea, A Hawk in an Hawksaw, CRTVTR, Prince Rama of Ayodhya, Stafræn Hákon, port-royal, Judith Juillerat, Giardini di Mirò, Saroos, Europ Europ, Mindy Misty, Library Tapes, A Classic Education, Far From Tellus, Bodycode, Shackleton, Tempelhof, Sea Dweller, Matteah Baim, Jenniferever and many others and toured in USA for the first time last September.

    Friday March 16, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)
“I got laid off from my job at the end of last year and decided I needed a change. My girlfriend put in her two weeks and we moved out to a little cabin in Papaikou, Hawaii. It’s a pretty remote place outside of Hilo (i.e no plumbing/electricity/gas). We worked for meals during the day cultivating indigenous microorganisms and learning the basics of sustainable living. We drank showered and cooked with rain water. It was a beautifully simple experience. In our downtime, she would paint and I would record. We’d have to light candles in an effort to save solar power to keep my computer running. We inspired each other a lot out there, and I think it shows on the album. She sings on a lot of the tracks on All Night. The music comes from a place of love and ease. The video for Endless Spring was shot there in our spare time, and the music was sketched out loosely over the course of a few months. We just kind of melted into one person. We were able to keep our heads above water for a few months before we both went broke and moved back to Chicago last month. I put together all the arrangements and field recordings over the last few weeks, and that became All Night. “

Marianne Dissard
    Friday March 16, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

French-born, Tucson-based chanteuse Marianne Dissard was born within sight of the Pyrénées mountains in the South of France but has been living in the American West since the age of 16. Singer, writer of lyrics and poetry, filmmaker and performance artist, Marianne Dissard tours extensively the world over, either solo or backed by her American bandmates. Over the course of four acclaimed albums, unique hybrids of Americana and Chanson, she has collaborated with Tucson’s sweethearts Calexico, Howe Gelb, Naïm Amor, Sergio Mendoza, Jim Waters and Brian Lopez as well as with her extended family outside of Arizona, including French chanteuse Françoiz Breut, Berlin choreographer Ami Garmon, Italian composer Christian Ravaglioli and Rhymesayers producer BK-One.
    -
    -
Marianne Dissard’s second ‘official’ album, “L’Abandon” (2011) was released in early 2011 to critical acclaim: “One of the best dark rock records in recent years.” (Lucid Culture), “Quelle richesse, quelle diversité, quelle complexité !” (Le Parisien). Produced by Marianne with Jim Waters (Jon Spencer, Little Rabbits) and BK-One (Rhymesayers, Brother Ali) ‘L’Abandon’ was recorded with Christian Ravaglioli from Italy, Luke Doucet from Canada, Arthur Vint, Connor Gallaher, Sergio Mendoza, Brian Lopez and Thøger Lund. The companion film to the album, ‘Lonesome Cowgirls’, is a bawdy burlesque remake, directed and acted by Marianne, of the Andy Warhol’s 1968 Tucson western, ‘Lonesome Cowboys’. Marianne is spending most of 2011 on tour in China, New Zealand and Australia, Europe and North America, including a Pyrénées walking tour with her donkey.
    -
    -
In 2010, Marianne released her ‘intermediary’ album, “Paris One Takes” (2010) (“8/10″ Blurt, “a fantastic album. 4/5 Stars” Venus Magazine, “Definitely one of our favorite albums of 2010″ Lucid Culture) as a free download in gratitude to her fans. Marianne attended SXSW 2010, blogging about the festival for The Huffington Post and toured the US with Françoiz Breut, including a MOMA performance in NYC.
    -
    -
Between Chanson and Americana, Marianne Dissard’s enchanting debut album, “L’Entredeux” (2008), was produced and composed by Calexico’s Joey Burns, with stellar contributions by friends from both continents, including Calexico’s John Convertino on drums, Naïm Amor, Rob Burger, Sammy Decoster and Mickey Raphael. “L’Entredeux” was released worldwide in the Fall 2008, with 15 months of touring from Europe to New Zealand and North America. The album won a prestigious Coup De Coeur from France’s Académie Charles Cros in 2009 and was voted in the Top 10 French albums of the decade by Francophile bloggers. “A moody, captivating album, with roots in Nick Drake’s introspection, Francoise Hardy’s romanticism and Nina Simone’s drama.” writes Blurt Magazine. A music video for “Les Draps Sourds” guest-features France’s pop stars Katerine and Dominique A.

    Saturday March 17, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

Benjamin von Wildenhaus. Name sounds like a turn-of-the-century Prussian duke or peddler of curios, snakeoil and ersatz jewelry. Maybe not such a bad set of images to start by thinking about, rather than all his influences or whatever. Ben Wildenhaus is a guitar player, pianist and all-‘round musical dude, on par with modern guys like Alan Bishop and older ones like Sandy Bull. All three were drawn to the vast space, windblown grit and non-Western twang of desert guitar/oud music. None went the tacky world [sic] music route, Allah etc. be praised. All three instead took gracefully and intuitively to the music’s deeper structure—hazy or unmarked beginnings and endings, subtle dynamic rise and ebb, and unhurried play—and adapted it into their own idiom. They’ve given us ambitious wandering soundscapes, suitable for salt trading by caravan, qat chewing in humid cafés, and walking to work with your headphones on.

Hubble
    Saturday March 17, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ The Hideout (617 Congress Ave)

    HUBBLE
Since the inception of his new solo guitar project Hubble, Ben Greenberg of Zs and Pygmy Shrews has sought to
exploit the guitar for its ulterior qualities, simultaneously displaying a true love for the instrument while redefining how
guitar music is understood. Whether distortion-drenched or clean, Ben describes painstaking result as “cyber-dread”,
an apocalyptic, beat-less quasi-electronic music, conjuring Terry Riley’s pulsing minimalist structures and Gregg Ginn’s
aggressive, avant-garde rock. The first full-length record Hubble Drums is set for release on Northern-Spy Records in
November 2011 in support of which Hubble will tour extensively throughout the US and Europe.
About the Hubble live performance, Ben expounds, “Every Hubble set, on a stage or in a friend’s basement or in my
bedroom, is a concerted effort on my part to change the air in the room, to push it towards a state of greater reso-
nance.” Using mesmerizing guitar mastery to create extended rhythmic patters of note groupings of varied tempo,
dissonance, and harmony, Ben hypnotizes the audience with slowly developing, subtle variation, until the listener is
lulled into a highly vivid dream state. The set varies between a versatile and simple set-up and the more ambitious
Hubble Superposition, a quadraphonic experience that splits the guitar signal into four different singals which are
    routed through four seperate amplifiers.
Ben’s first release Hubble Linger (NNA Tapes) brilliantly utilized the cassette format by distilling a live performance into
two side-long pieces of stereo-panning guitar. The tape was well received inciting electronic musician Keith Fullerton
Whitman to claim “…I’m fairly floored by this extended solo-trance-out from Zs guitarist Ben Greenberg, who seems to
have invented a device that halts time (musical, actual, and meta-physical) ; its use is put to great effect across this
60-minute blast of cycling “stereo” chord progressions and assorted haze(s) that approaches the fervour of MBV /
Belong’s filtered-out high-gain wash while retaining the minimalist patina of Charlemagne Palestine piece …
    awesome.”
"At once heady and visceral, psychedelic and intensely lucid, Hubble's mesmeric guitar webs are laser-etched incanta-
tions to the sublime. At the luminous crossroads of John Lee Hooker and Philip Glass, this is virtuosic and visionary
sound-sculpture that kicks the concept of what is music just a little further down the road. There is something new
under the sun. Just listen." - Michael Azerrad
“Hubble's euphoric wheedlechurn is where the measured precision of downtown minimalism meets the unhinged
aggression of Brooklyn loft noise--truly hypnotic and truly New York.” - Christopher R. Weingarten
“It was as if Greenberg was summoning a galaxy right then and there in a zen state of shred.” - Lars Gotrich, NPR
“His new instrumental solo project, Hubble, finds Greenberg maniacally noodling through celestial, finger-tapped riffs
with little more than a guitar and a basic loop station. It’s a touch more accessible than his past work, and allows his
well-honed virtuosity to shine through.” – The New Yorker
“Greenberg's brand of ambient, sci-fi psychedelia-- dubbed "cyber-dread"-- creatively stretches the limits of conven-
tional guitar technique, tone, and composition in a way that showcases the instrument's formidable capability to fly
solo” - Matt Sullivan, Altered Zones
“…I’m fairly floored by this extended solo-trance-out from Zs guitarist Ben Greenberg, who seems to have invented a
device that halts time (musical, actual, and meta-physical) ; its use is put to great effect across this 60-minute blast of
