Oh My Me
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)
Oh My Me was formed in Lexington, Ky in 2010. With a wildly-varying musical background, the group blends an eclectic mix of battering drums, psychedelia & heavy-soul vocals to form it's uniquely theatrical sound. Surprising melodies & dynamic arrangements are keystones in the group's music. Coupled with an unflinching stage presence, they have quickly established themselves as a band that is as interesting to see as they are to hear.
    They released their self-titled e.p. in 2011.

Whiskey Daredevils
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 11:00pm - 11:40pm @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)
The Whiskey Daredevils are one of the planet's finest country punkabilly bands. Since 2004 when former members of The Cowslingers decided to continue playing their mashed up country/rockabilly/americana/punk sound, the band has toured non stop. Having released 7 full length CDs on Germany's Knock-Out Records and now America's Shake It Records, the band has also played US, Canada, Germany, Belgium, Holland, Switzerland, France, and Spain while trying to sell those CDs to unsuspecting rock fans. The band operates by a simple motto. The Whiskey Daredevils: Slightly Better Than You Expected.

The Sundresses

    Wednesday March 14, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)

From Jim Caligiuri, The Austin Chronicle:

Besides fruit, a strawberry can be a red bruise on the skin. It's an apt description for what Wussy does. The Cincinnati quartet's brand of punk is raucous, melodic, and leaves a mark. Strawberry's more electronic than previous output – check out the fuzz on "Asteroid" – but there's a taut stateliness to what Wussy does, recalling the Mekons. Chuck Cleaver of Nineties wiseacres the Ass Ponys matches his Jon Langford to Lisa Walker's Sally Timms blow for blow. Wussy's magic is the rage behind "Fly Fly Fly" and ominous undercurrents of "Little Miami," pulsing at different tempos but striking with equal force.

Muchachito Bombo Infierno

    Thursday March 15, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)

DURAN is a solo project, it has a new sound called chirripop, this style of music includes electrocumbia,
dance hall. R&B, rock & trip hop. However, the lyrics have a particular style full of street and raw
elements, evoking a real Colombian sound beneath an obscene “fandango” that will make you move by the rhythim of hell. His album debut comes with all the flavor of his country, providing the popular music a hot and hip status that makes the colombian sound into an aproachabble music to the world.

La Vida Boheme
    Thursday March 15, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)

La Vida Boheme is a dance rock band which formed on the fierce streets of Caracas, Venezuela, only three years ago. Early in their career, the group won a “battle of the bands” contest and began to plug themselves into the local dive bar circuit. Fast forward two years and you will find a very unlikely future taking place: their FIRST record turned them into stars in their country, signed by legendary indie label Nacional Records in the USA and Mexico, incredible reviews on their first US Tour (even getting front page in a New York Times piece by Jon Pareles) and nominated for two Latin Grammys 2011, for best Rock Song and Best Rock Album.

Magic Wands
    Thursday March 15, 2012 10:00pm - 10:40pm @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)

Magic Wands are a two-piece from either Los Angeles, CA or Nashville, TN. They’re not really sure. Currently, however, they do know that they are drifting across the country bringing a “wall of white guitars” and “unapologetic cosmic pop” to all parts of the U.S. Taking cues from the likes of The Ravonettes (run through a galactic black hole), Morrissey and My Bloody Valentine, Artrocker describes them as “slick and sexy, glutinous and glimmering.”

The Kingston Springs
    Saturday March 17, 2012 7:30pm - 8:05pm @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)
Releasing their debut highly recognized EP in 2010, The Kingston Springs have performed at Starry Nights Music Festival with Cage the Elephant, rocking the BMI stage at Lollapalooza 2011, and touring across the country from coast to coast. These guys are doing much more than (just) chasing girls these days. Since their first festival performances at Starry Nights and Next Big Nashville 2010, TKS have been successfully winning crowds over, headlining and sharing bills with J Roddy Walston and the business, Matt Costa, the Features, and Dex Romweber Duo. TKS have also seen their name on multiple major festival bills (Austin City Limits, SXSW, Lollapalooza, Langerado, Florida Music Fest).
Their latest EP, "Vacation Time," has created quite the buzz not only amongst fans, but industry executives alike. An original sound with older influences, these young men have nailed it. A west coast feel with classic rock roots, their solid rhythm section (Alexander Geddes, bass; Mattew DeMaio, drums) allow singer Ian Ferguson to show off his pristine and downright catchy vocals. Accompanied by James Guldry (guitar, keys, horn, banjo "utility man") the boys have mastered dreamlike harmonies and clever instrumental breakdowns. Their collaborative method of songwriting has given their performances and their EP a cohesive and unique energy. TKS have plans to release their first full-length, self-titled album spring of 2012. They have been recording the new album in Franklin, TN as if it were the 1970s again- all recorded to tape. From stage presence to sound, musicality to charm, The Kingston Springs are well on their way to the top - and by the looks of things, they are here to stay.

Cotton Mather
    Saturday March 17, 2012 9:20pm - 9:55pm @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)

From Greg Beets, The Austin Chronicle:

Leander, Texas, is a long way from London, but not if you're Cotton Mather.

Fresh off a successful Kickstarter campaign to fund the expanded February reissue of its 1997 closet classic, Kontiki, the Austin pop purists are reuniting for South by Southwest. Upon its initial release, the quartet's sophomore effort, a rough-hewn blend of power pop, psychedelia, and erudite lyricism, generated only a polite response. Then Rainbow Quartz released it in the UK a year later. Shortly thereafter, Noel Gallagher of Oasis happened upon a copy and sang the album's praises to a nationwide BBC audience.

"Bob Geldof was a programmer at some independent station in London," recalls guitarist Whit Williams. "He was playing it, and it was selling at this shop in Notting Hill – Minus Zero Records. I think that's where the Oasis guys got it."

According to guitarist/vocalist Robert Harrison, eschewing the studio to record on four-track at a clapboard house just outside the Austin suburb of Leander helped give Kontiki its wings.

"The first thing I learned once I was in charge of recording was that you can't break music," Harrison says. "It seemed to me that a lot of people approached recording music in a professional studio like a Volkswagen engine: Once you took it apart, you could never put it back together."

Out in the sticks, Harrison's songs had room to grow. Even amid a surfeit of nods to the British Invasion, an underlying sense of time and place left a few fingerprints on Kontiki.

"We were just trying to make something we loved," Harrison says. "The joke was we were just hicks, out here in the country eating fried chicken and drinking Budweiser, making songs and burying them in the backyard."

The John Steel Singers
    Saturday March 17, 2012 11:10pm - 11:45pm @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)
The John Steel Singers are one of the most well-known alternative acts in Australia. With five members traversing across instruments like explorers, the Brisbane natives bring another dimension to the experimental pop aesthetic with an accomplished brass section on trombone and trumpet amongst the staple guitars, bass and drums. They were voted by national youth station, triple j, as unsigned band of the year with the Unearthed J Award in 2008. Their debut album ‘Tangalooma’ was produced by Robert Forster of The Go-Betweens and mixed by Nicolas Vernhes (Deerhunter, Fiery Furnaces). The album garnered huge support with triple j, receiving feature album, and single ‘Overpass’ coming in at #52 in the Hottest 100 of 2010. The band has trekked the country with their own sell-out headline shows and supported some incredible bands on tour such as The Polyphonic Spree, The Morning Benders and The Dodos; as well as playing festivals such as Splendour In The Grass, Big Day Out and Laneway Festival. They were recently in the states for CMJ in NY and have returned again for SXSW. They’ll be touring the west coast with He’s My Brother, She’s My Sister and Bad Weather California; playing the Tree Fort Music Festival in Boise, Idaho; and they’ll jumping into the studio with LA producer Thom Monahan (Vetiver, Little Joy, Au Revoir Simone) while in the country.

The Henry Clay People

Voxhaul Broadcast
    Sunday March 18, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Soho Lounge (217 E 6th St)

Life could have been much different for these four childhood friends if they had followed the paths that were strictly enforced on them. David Dennis (singer) was the son of missionary parents that traveled the world, living in Russia, India, Singapore and Hong Kong. When his parents separated, David’s father would not allow him to play guitar. David secretly taught himself how to play at his mother’s on the weekends. As David was growing up around the world, Kurt Allen (drummer) and Anthony Aguiar (guitar/ keyboards) met at the age of four when Anthony’s family moved on the same street in Southern California. Kurt, the son of a Vietnam veteran, was raised in hopes he would one day join the Marines and Anthony grew up in a very strict Catholic upbringing. Neither family encouraged the boys to pick up any instruments and start a band, but these two fell in love with music when they first heard Nirvana. It was at that moment they knew what they wanted to do for the rest of their lives. The two boys learned how to play their instruments along side one another and together their passion for music grew. At the same time, Phil Munsey (bass), was raised a pastor’s son and was traveling in a van going across the country as his parents preached. David and Phil met when David’s parents started attending the Munsey’s church in the same town as Kurt and Anthony lived. The two became fast friends and Phil brought David to his first music concert. There David got on stage for the first time and screamed into a microphone singing. Phil was so impressed by David’s singing and attitude that he asked David to start a punk band with him and Phil’s little brother. Soon after, junior high started and David and Kurt met and their friendship and passion for playing music with one another began. From there all four kids became fast friends and musical partners. From junior high through high school, the boys in their separately formed bands would often play together at local shows. After high school Kurt moved to San Francisco and Anthony, Phil and David began playing together. Kurt, watching the three grow together musically and missing playing music with his friends, left San Francisco and joined the boys back in Southern California. Finally after many years many different bands, the four-childhood friends were playing together and Voxhaul Broadcast was formed. Short after Voxhaul formed, they moved to Los Angeles and became local favorites. They released their first EP “Rotten Apples” with Dwayne Larring and began making their first trips across the county playing such festivals as LA’s Sunset Junction, Summer Fest in Milwaukee and CMJ in New York. Their next EP “Fact Fiction And Turquoise” was recorded at Elliot Smith’s old recording studio New Monkey with Eli Thompson. This EP featured such songs like “Shoot The Breeze” and “Fact Or Fiction”, which made them regulars on KCRW and gave them their first airplay in the UK on NME. Later that year they had the privilege of playing on KCRW’s popular morning radio show “Mornings Become Eclectic”. After two EP’s, they recorded their first album “Timing Is Everything” at Fairfax Studios with Grammy-award winning producer Tom Biller. This album helped them grow from local favorites to a national touring band. Following the release, Voxhaul went to SXSW and played at great showcases like Filter’s Ceder Street Festival and The Pure Volume House. Following SXSW they toured extensively throughout the country and were asked to join national tours with acts like Rooney and The Airborne Toxic Event. Now the band is recording their next album at Village Studios and getting ready for some more national and international tours.
