Future of the Left
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 11:00pm - 11:40pm @ Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto)

Future Of The Left’s upcoming album, The Plot Against Common Sense, will be the group’s third full-length release. Teased with the Polymers Are Forever EP released in late 2011, this album will expand on the band’s razor sharp and brash sound. Pitchfork.com proclaimed, “It’s been far, far too long since we last heard from Welsh rabblerousers Future of the Left, with 2009’s awesome Travels With Myself and Another being their last missive.”
Three years later, Future of the Left is ready to release new material under a new label and with a new lineup. The quartet parted ways with 4AD last year and welcomed Julia Ruzicka (bass) to the FOTL crew, which currently consists of former Mclusky members and FOTL cofounders, Andrew Falkous (vocals and guitar) and Jack Egglestone (drums), as well as Jimmy Watkins (guitar). “This certainly isn’t the sound of a shaken band though: time away from the studio has seen the members dig further into their unclassifiable, noisy nook” said BBC.com of Polymers Are Forever.
With the full-length’s release date fast-approaching, “perennial industry curmudgeons” should rejoice, said CMJ.com. Fans’ smiles should be extended even further with news of Future of the Left’s upcoming worldwide tour plans spanning 2012.

Charlie Simpson
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 10:00pm - 10:40pm @ Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto)
At 26 years, Charlie has already spent almost half his life as a professional songwriter and frontman. Starting out as a beleaguered punk-pop heartthrob in multi-platinum act Busted, he broke free of the major label shackles to form a new band, Fightstar, more suited to his taste for alternative, post-hardcore and metal infused rock. 5 years later, after their third album hit the UK indie chart at #1 and the band had headlined a sold out 2,000 capacity show at London's Shepherds Bush Empire, the band went on a hiatus. “We couldn’t write another Fightstar record,” reveals Charlie of the time. “We’d burned ourselves out. We’d done three records in a row." This provided an opportunity to focus on a solo project; Charlie’s love for acoustic based sonics has always run alongside his interest in harder and heavier sounds. “When I was getting into metal when I was younger, bands like the Deftones and Sepultura, I also had a massive passion for singer songwriters like Jeff Buckley and Jackson Browne”. Enlisting producer Danton Supple (Coldplay) Charlie went into the studio in summer 2010 with material already written and demo'd. The first single 'Down Down Down' was released in April 2011 and was immediately picked up by BBC Radio 1 as 'Record Of The Week'. As the campaign gathered steam, much of the british media came out to support Charlie and his new sound, with multiple national TV and Radio performances, and features running in broadsheets (Guardian) and tabloid (Daily Star) newspapers alike. Online, the enthusiasm for his solo effort was palpable- his YouTube channel has reached over a million views. The album 'Young Pilgrim' was released in August 2011 and debuted at #6 on the UK chart, a triumph for an independent artist. The intimate feel and vintage warmth of the songs have also garnered numerous sync opportunities including Channel 4 hit TV show 'Made In Chelsea' and ABC's 'Cougar Town'. Charlie is currently touring the album at sold out venues across the UK and preparing for release in Germany and abroad.

Cancer Bats
    Thursday March 15, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto)

January 24, 2012 – Toronto, ON) Two-time JUNO-nominated CANCER BATS will release their fourth full-length album Dead Set On Living, on April 17, 2012 through Distort Inc. in Canada. Once again utilizing the legendary Vespa Studios and producers Eric Ratz and Kenny Luong, Dead Set On Living is undeniably the most metal-tinged offering the band has released to date, bringing yet another dimension to the Bats’ signature sound.

“We really strived for that raw, off-the-floor vibe this time around,” begins Cancer Bats vocalist Liam Cormier. “It’s really the bridge between our live show and what we put on record.”

Tracks like “R.A.T.S.” (Featuring guest vocals from Rob Urbinati of Sacrifice) and “The Void” are laced with the gritty, sludgy groove that first emerged on cuts from 2008’s Hail Destroyer, while the blistering first single “Old Blood” roars with the riot-inducing speed and aggression so familiar to the band’s fans. The blazing “Bastards!” also features vocal boosts from DevilDriver’s Dez Fafara and An Horse’s Kate Cooper. “We’ve been very lucky to experiment as much as we have,” Cormier offers, crediting the band’s loyal following for their fortune. “I love that we can have thrash songs, hardcore songs, and the more Queens of the Stone Age or Kyuss kind of groove-based tunes.”

Thematically, the album offers a strong focus on the bilateral relationship of dark and light, destruction and construction, life and death. The title track, for example, refers to a close friend of the band who ended up in the hospital in serious condition; only to have the experience cement his will to survive. “Road Sick,” as the title may imply, finds Cormier struggling with the hardships that come with a career spent on the road. “Our lives are all about touring, but that song is more universal,” Cormier reveals. “It’s really for anyone away from their loved ones, dealing with that situation.”

Still, whereas 2010’s Bears, Mayors, Scraps & Bones had a much darker tinge, DSOL strikes a tighter balance between the opposing forces and brings listeners closer to the light at the end of the tunnel by encouraging them to push through peril. “We all reach these dark places where we feel angry or alone,” says the singer, “but that gives us a reason to pick ourselves up and strive to make something better.”

Since first turning heads with 2006’s Birthing The Giant, the Cancer Bats, made up of Liam Cormier (vocals), Scott Middleton (Guitar), Mike Peters (drums) and Jaye Schwarzer (bass) are one of the hardest working bands in the music industry. The band spent close to 300 days away from home in 2011, and will likely come close to that in 2012.

Cancer Bats recently revealed to fans that on April 21, 2012 in London, UK, they would play six shows in five different venues, all within the span of 24 hours. Dubbed the ‘Pentagram’ tour (the location of the venues when joined together form the shape of a pentagram), all six shows sold out in the first week. A spring cross-Canada tour in support ofDSOL is in the works, with dates to be announced soon.

Big Deal
    Friday March 16, 2012 11:00pm - 11:40pm @ Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto)
Using only two voices and two guitars, Alice Costelloe and Kacey Underwood create music that’s unfettered by the constraints of a traditional band. Their sound is gauzy but spartan; his vocal, dusky, hers crystalline, twinned in a spectral haze. From the first song they ever wrote together, the distractedly sweet ‘Homework’, to the celestial drift of ‘Pi’ Big Deal’s music is unflinchingly honest, powerful in its intimacy and quivering with the intensity of a first crush.

Howler
    Saturday March 17, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto)

Based in Minneapolis, Howler are Jordan Gatesmith (vocals / guitar), Ian Nygaard (guitar), France Camp (bass), Max Petrek (keyboard) and Brent Mayes (drums). What started as a side project for Jordan Gatesmith in 2010, quickly took off, catching the ear of the NME, which led to Rough Trade signing them up for a worldwide deal. The band are a straight forward rock band, in the tradition of the Modern Lovers but have a "surf thrash" edge that reminds one of the Cramps at times. Barely 19 years old, Jordan has already wrapped up his first US tour, and is currently in the studio finishing the full-length, and will be supporting The Vaccines' full UK tour in november.

2:54
    Saturday March 17, 2012 1:00am - 1:40am @ Latitude 30 (512 San Jacinto)

For 2:54, everything comes from somewhere deep inside; that shared sisterly bond between Hannah and Colette Thurlow that manifests in their matching, messy hand gestures, the mirroring tattoos down their right arms, and their darkly triumphant, guitar-driven epics. Their relationship and the music they’ve been making together since they were teenagers are so intuitive that they struggle to describe it; but when they do, you know exactly what they mean.

From Jim Caligiuri, The Austin Chronicle:

Manchester's Dutch Uncles' debut, Cadenza, caused the press to coin "math-pop" to describe their oddly danceable tunes reminiscent of a hooky, denser Talking Heads. Clock Opera is an eclectic fourpiece led by former "pop-chop" guru Guy Connelly. The Londoner's debut, Ways To Forget, is due in April. With a deafening buzz already surrounding them, London's Django Django are a young quartet with a psychedelicized mix of familiar styles presented in a new way. Its self-titled debut was just released in the UK to roaring reviews. Maverick Sabre, aka Michael Stafford, was hailed by the BBC's Huw Stephens as "the male Amy Winehouse." The new voice in UK soul issued his first album, Lonely Are the Brave, in February. 2011's Paradise, the second effort from London's Slow Club, found the duo of Charles Watson and Rebecca Taylor boldly exploring new sounds while retaining their quirky bubblegum folk appeal. One of the UK's most popular dance DJs with his own show on BBC 1, Toddla T (aka Tom Bell) is more dubwise than dubstep.
