Heartless Bastards
    Tuesday March 13, 2012 9:30pm - 10:10pm @ Club 606 (606 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Brimming with confidence and creativity, Arrow sees Heartless Bastards pushing their distinctive sound forward with their most eclectic, energetic collection thus far. The album – the Austin, Texas-based band’s first release with Partisan Records – is marked as ever by singer/guitarist/songwriter Erika Wennerstrom’s remarkable voice, at turns primal and pleading, heartfelt and heroic. Songs like “Parted Ways” and the searing “Low Low Low” expertly capture the Bastards’ multi-dimensional rock in all its strength and spirit. Following upon the difficult introspection of 2009′s acclaimed third album, The Mountain, Arrow stands as a powerhouse new beginning for Heartless Bastards.

Wheelchair Sports Camp
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 8:00pm - 8:30pm @ Club 606 (606 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701)
Wheelchair Sports Camp, the Denver based pseudo hip-hop band is a combination of beats, drums, a saxophone, and DJ. The band unknowingly started in the summer of 1997 when Kalyn moved back from Burbank, CA to her Denver hometown and was invited to attend and corrupt the 14th annual week-long Wheelchair Sports Camp. After meeting Abi and later brother Isaac in college, Kalyn combined talents to create a more live, jazzy, funky, combination to the traditional hip-hop group. The unconventional setup of live instruments, turntables and Kalyn's produced beats, presents a polished sound unique to the hip hop game with old-school lyrics that maintain a sarcastic yet independent and heavy consciousness.
Wheelchair Sports Camp persists to stay passionate about many causes, playing shows to raise money and awareness to Occupy Denver, prevent domestic violence, support Haiti relief efforts, promote equality, advocate an end to the war in the Middle East, aid the homeless, and any other fight they can foster. Taking a nod from one of their favorite artists Radiohead, Wheelchair Sports Camp always has free or pay what you can CDs available at shows for fans. “If you can’t afford music or food, steal it!” has been their motto since inception. Their goal is to spread their music like wildfire, and they encourage their fans to share and borrow creativity in hopes to conserve a free culture. To them, it's the only way to keep their music headed in the right direction without allowing money and greed to interfere with the creative process.

Kyle was then asked to perform at last years SXSW and Rock the Bells, where he struck up a collaborative project with Talib Kweli. Since then Kyle has been one of the strongest up and coming artists out of new york; performing with the likes Action Bronson, Mr. Muthafuckin' EXquire, and gearing up for the release of his debut album "The Sky's on Fire" which he recorded in LA, NYC and a Liberian Refugee camp in Ghana. Kyle Rapps makes skillful, well-crafted music.

Kosha Dillz
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 11:45pm - 12:15am @ Club 606 (606 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Kosha Dillz, born Rami Matan Even-Esh, has earned the title of the "hardest working man in hip hop" by his peers recently. From breakfast freestyles on morning shows with tap dancers, to performing at over 150 shows a year for the past three years, to studio time with Rza and Kool G Rap, having his own video game character in NBA 2k11,and scoring a song in a Bud light Superbowl commercial - he certainly lives up to the reputation. With his 2011 move to Los Angeles, Dillz launched his "OY VEY PARTY" series - uniting acts from all over the world to play what he describes as "a mix between a Pro-Israel jewish speed dating singles night crossed with a rapper cypher and indie rock vibes. Plus, my rabbi will be probably be there, along with my thugged out homies." While being celebrated across the world for his Freestyles that captivated thousands along side a 2009 fall tour with Matisyahu, it wasn't surprising to see him opening up for Snoop Dogg in Amsterdam only 6 months later rapping in Spanish English and Hebrew.

For the past year, Kosha has been documenting his travels with film maker/ShalomTV editor Darah Golub, featuing everyone from former boxing world champion Mike Tyson to Matisyahu and hot 97 morning show host Peter Rosenberg. Follow kosha Dillz across the country as the next Jewish superstar is built from the ground up with no major backing corporation, landing his music videos on MTV, FUSE, VH1 and playing SXSW, CMJ, Paid Dues and Rock The Bells. This former division I college athlete and ex- con tells the story of his rags to "average" riches and we get the luxury of enjoying his emotional hardships in the process.
Kosha Dillz and his "OY VEY PARTY" movement is bringing together people of all colors and creeds and kids are starting to feel cooler than ever, with over ten shows in between LA, Chicago, NYC, and Austin. Its not unlikely that this Jewish rap show on wheels pits him as the only man in the house, but he sure is the only man that can do what he does. And up to this point, it looks like he can do anything he puts his mind too.

ZZ Ward
    Thursday March 15, 2012 8:15pm - 8:55pm @ Club 606 (606 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Where dirty blues and beats collide: Meet ZZ Ward, a singer/songwriter whose artistry spins on a luminous axis of voice and soul. Raised in Roseburg, Oregon, ZZ learned from her father who wrote songs and played harmonica in blues bands, but it was old school masters like Big Mama Thornton, Howlin’ Wolf, Robert Johnson and Muddy Waters from her parent’s vinyl collection that first intrigued ZZ. “It was the authenticity,” she recalls, “the soulfulness.”
While ZZ is now at home on stage in reverential Los Angeles listening rooms, she was schooled in smokey dive bars and juke joints across the Pacific Northwest – anywhere she could sing. Driving fog-shrouded logging roads to gigs, hauling gear and setting up the sound system before playing three hours a night, ZZ is battle-tested.

“I’m proud of the fact that I’ve done a lot,” she says. “I’ve paid dues and I’m still paying dues. I put albums together and sold them in parking lots. It was hard to go up to strangers and talk about music, but it made me tough.”

Her musical momentum took her on a strange road, connecting her with a hip-hop community in Eugene, Oregon, to write and perform hooks at high-energy, rap shows. This rhythmic journey, combined with her bluesy upbringing, would become essential in laying the foundation for her signature "dirty blues and beats" sound.

On January 4, 2012, ZZ dropped her mixtape, eleven roses, further solidifying her sonic foundation. The set features blues-riddled interpretations of some of her favorite hip-hop songs including Tyler The Creator’s “Yonkers,” Childish Gambino’s “You Know Me,” Wiz Khalifa/Curren$y’s “Rooftops” and Freddie Gibbs’ “Oil Money.” The offering also boasts two originals produced by Kid Cudi/Cool Kids collaborators Blended Babies and two acoustic renditions of songs to be featured on her upcoming full-length debut, due out later this year on Boardwalk/Hollywood Records.

Prof
    Friday March 16, 2012 12:15am - 12:55am @ Club 606 (606 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701)
Forged from a history of hardship and partying, Prof’s music and career reflect the dichotomy that his life has been. His music documents everything he has experienced; from adversities as a child, like his father setting fire to their home or sleeping on a bean bag growing up, to his adult diversions, like his love affair with whiskey and women (in that order). Much the same, his career has also seen this duality. After grinding on the Minneapolis hip-hop scene for over ten years with little to show besides a small ravenous fan base, Prof has recently begun to make serious national traction on the back of his unique recordings and must see live shows.

“Everyone becomes sea urchins and rats at night,” says PAPA's Darren Weiss, laughing slyly. “It’s the nature of being young.”
Like with an inside joke you know, you smirk along, succumbing to a moment of reverie. The suggestion of crawling so close to the dirt floods in bastard memories. And so, when the versatile drummer, singer and principle songwriter next puts his band's musical efforts in simple terms such as, setting out to make “American soul music with a punk-rock mentality” on its forthcoming EP, A Good Woman is Hard to Find, you nod along, like, yeah that sounds about right.

Mwahaha
    Saturday March 17, 2012 9:15pm - 9:55pm @ Club 606 (606 E 7th St, Austin, TX 78701)
What's in a name? Oakland, CA's Mwahaha answers that question with a smirk, but the sounds that emanate from their forthcoming debut album are no joke. Psychedelic ebb & flows, electronic undercurrents, and elated pop flourishes bring into focus an attention to detail that's staggering. The band, consisting of Ross Peacock (formerly of Clipd Beaks ) and brothers Nathan and Cyrus Tilton (who were all previously in the Bay Area cult band Ned), have completed their debut full length album Mwahaha, set for release December 6th on their own Mwahaha Music imprint. The swirling, epic "Rainbow Diamond" is available as a free download. Instruments are filtered through an array of analog synths, analog drum machines exist in harmony with live drums, and morphing walls of sound allow more pop oriented material to be in harmony with the sprawling sonic landscapes elsewhere on the album. Reference points such as Matthew Dear's Black City, The Secret Machines, and the Silver Apples are apt, but Mwahaha carves out their own sound and approach, regardless of the comparisons.
