Rebecca Loebe
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 8:00pm - 8:40pm @ Beale Street Tavern (214-B East 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Since quitting her job as a full-time audio engineer, self-described "post-brontosaurus indie folk/crunk" sinner/songwriter Rebecca Loebe has played an average of 150 shows per year in almost 40 states of the US and in Europe. An invitation to audition for NBC's new hit singing competition "The Voice," in 2011 led to her performance of an original arrangement of Nirvana's 'Come As You Are' on the premiere episode of the program. Her performance caught the attention of celebrity coaches Adam Levine and Christina Aguilera, and her version of the song landed in the iTunes Top 100 in the US, Europe and South America, peaking at #7 on the iTunes Alternative Chart in the US. Although appearing on a television show seen by 12 million people in the first of its many international airings gave her career an undeniable boost, Loebe had already been supporting herself as a fulltime touring indie/roots singer/songwriter for 4 years.  In the May of 2009 she was honored as a winner of the Kerrville New Folk Songwriting Award, and the next year her full-length album ‘Mystery Prize’ spent over 2 months on both the US and European Americana Charts and was named by the AMA as one of the Top 100 Albums of the Year.

Jillian Edwards
    Thursday March 15, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Beale Street Tavern (214-B East 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Singer-songwriter Jillian Edwards hails from Texas, but she now calls Nashville home. A graduate of Baylor University, her crystalline, breezy soprano and intelligent, heartfelt songwriting have been steadily attracting fans, including Fervent Records recording artist/producer Chris August, who produced her first album, Galaxies & Such. In November of 2011, Jillian release her sophomore effort, Headfirst, which was the No. 1 album on the iTunes Singer/Songwriter chart on release day and throughout that following week, in addition to peaking at #12 on the overall iTunes album chart on release day. Once again finding her teaming with August (and Jacob Schrodt) Headfirst finds Jillian exploring lyrical themes that resonate profound and universal simultaneously. Her engaging and delightfully unconventional melodic sense is also showcased, assuredly inviting listeners to dive Headfirst for more.

Cardinal
    Friday March 16, 2012 12:00am - 12:40am @ Beale Street Tavern (214-B East 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Was there chamber pop after the Beatles and Bee Gees and before Belle & Sebastian? The missing link is Cardinal's self-titled debut. The album's release in 1994, which seemed to come out of nowhere, with its layered textures and delightful melodies, swimming against the tidalwave of grunge. It ushered in an era of renewed appreciation for the orchestrated pop music of the 1960s, and at the same time inspired and influenced a host of modern artists, who followed in Cardinal's footsteps, endeavoring to duplicate its majesty and sound so classic.
Founded by Richard Davies, Australian by birth, Welsh by parentage, and American by choice, along with Oregonian Eric Matthews, Cardinal was formed when the unlikely duo met in Boston, Massachusetts. Davies most notably had been in the band the Moles, which led him from his native Sydney, to London, and then to New England, while Matthews was born in Southern California, studying music at a conservatory in San Francisco before moving to the north east.

Twerps
    Friday March 16, 2012 1:00am - 1:50am @ Beale Street Tavern (214-B East 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

Cheeky, charming and touchingly direct, Melbourne foursome Twerps have risen from humble beginnings to become international lo-fi pop champions.
Formed in 2008, Twerps were supporting the likes of Deerhunter (USA), the Bats (New Zealand), the Black Lips (USA), Yo La Tengo (USA) and Thee Oh Sees (USA) within a few months of their first gig.
Their debut EP was released by Chapter Music in 2009 (also released on cassette by US label Night People) and saw the band described as “the best new band in Australia” by iconic UK magazine Uncut.
They released two singles in early 2011 on US labels Underwater Peoples (Mountain Man, Real Estate) and Group Tightener (Best Coast, Cloud Nothings). They also took off on their first US tour, a six week adventure that took in SXSW, a midwest tour with Wet Hair, and a packed New York show with Big Troubles.
Their warm-hearted, ramshackle self-titled debut album was released in October 2011, as a co-release for Chapter Music and Underwater Peoples, after lead track Dreamin was premiered on Pitchfork. The album has received handsome reviews, including a 7.9 from Pitchfork and a coveted Best New Track for album closer Coast To Coast. The record was streamed on Stereogum and Gorilla Vs Bear and has been written up everywhere from Fader to Vice.

J. Irvin Dally
    Friday March 16, 2012 9:00pm - 9:40pm @ Beale Street Tavern (214-B East 6th St, Austin, TX 78701)

The psychedelic explorations and folk troubadour inclinations of young Californian J Irvin Dally are informed equally by his nomadic trajectory and his introspective clarity. Dally lived in a variety of climates throughout the country, raised in southern Illinois as a preacher’s son, came of age in Colorado, grew in Spain, and found himself in Sacramento and Santa Rosa before setting up permanent shop outside Los Angeles. This transience inspires the sonically transmigratory music he’s played since 2005. Self taught and self styled, Dally cut his teeth as a member of Sacramento’s Brother before recording bedroom folk expansive enough to knock down all four walls. While rustic vocals, dusty guitar laments, and ornate washes of analog hiss and angelic, dream-like textures are hallmarks of Dally’s brand of reverberated mindbending folk, the breadth of his current catalog has reared both grainy pop gems and rollicking experimental suites. His cassette release “The Countryside of Southern Illinois and the Daydreams That Almost Got Me to 19 Years” reveals a single, multi-movement song, admirable in its adventurous spirit and precise focus over the course of 26 minutes. While reminiscent of spirit warriors Jana Hunter and The Incredible String Band, J Irvin Dally is a singular and unique voice – the sound of exploring guitars and analog instrumentation to its fully realization.
