App.net Showcase for Mobile Apps
    Saturday March 10, 2012 4:00pm - 5:00pm @ Beauty Bar (617 E. Seventh St. Austin, TX)

The most interesting thing we could do is organize an event specifically for app developers looking to launch and get some thoughtful attention for their app.

Our vision for App.net has been to build tools that we as developers would personally want to use, and so we are trying to put together exactly the kind of event we would want to attend. i.e. we are not charging app developers for placement, we are not getting corporate sponsorship, we are not packing the event with too many apps or people.

The goal of our showcase is to drive discovery of new and noteworthy apps, and to actually move the needle for the developers who get a chance to present.

    App.net SXSW Showcase details:

App.net will provide a 10 minute presentation block to 6 app developers.
4 of the app slots are devoted to brand new apps launching
2 are for existing apps doing a significant relaunch
Capacity at the event will be small, but information about the apps at the event will be dispersed as widely as possible
We will film the presentation block and distribute the video of the presentation within 24 hoursApp.net will do our best to secure press coverage, app reviews and other promotion as part of this event.
Catered with Salt Lick barbecueAlso, Free Beer

If you are an app developer that is attending SXSW and would like the chance to present your app, please see this application form.

Interested folks should contact marketing@app.net for RSVP

OMG DIY BBQ
    Sunday March 11, 2012 6:00pm - 8:00pm @ J Mueller's BBQ (1502 S. 1st St., Austin, TX 78704)

Hot damn, it's time for the first (but soon-to-be-legendary) OMG DIY BBQ @ SXSW, brought to you by the rule-breaking rascals at DIYthemes.com.

We've hand-picked the best brisket on Earth, paired it with beef ribs that SHAME steakhouse filets, and thrown in some pork ribs that make vegetarians reconsider.

Toss in a couple of great brews from central Texas (a blonde ale and a delicious IPA), and friends—we've got ourselves an epic BBQ.

And the best part? We want to share it with you for FREE.

    But there's a catch...

Only the first 100 attendees will get free BBQ and beer.

There's only so much BBQ and beer to go around, ya know? And if you're not one of the first 100 people to arrive, you're gonna be a sad panda when you get a whiff of the brisket.

Anyway, if you like Thesis, code, nerds, free barbecue, and free beer, this event will probably be the single greatest experience of your life. And if it's not, then you can always drink until it is :D

The Portland Party
    Wednesday March 14, 2012 12:00pm - 2:00am @ The Grackle (1700 E 6th St., Austin, TX 78702)

Hipsters, tall bikes, clown schools, and endless PBR flowing in every home kegerator. Aptly named The Portland Party, the all-day concert will feature over 20 bands from Rain City, and even sweetens the deal with free beer, coffee, and liquor!

Local Portland breweries will be sending down kegs to provide two “Power Hours” of free beer, proving once and for all that despite recent allegations from Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein, the people of the Pacific Northwest will likely choose to “put a beer on it” over a bird. The two Power Hours will take place at Noon and 6:00pm. In addition, The Portland Party will be giving away free Stumptown Coffee (morning Power Hour) and 360 Vodka (evening Power Hour).

An intersection of Portland’s art and culture, the party is presented by a wide variety of Portland organizations, including Tender Loving Empire, A to Z Media, Octopus Entertainment, Marmoset Music, and Eleven Magazine. The Portland Party is also sponsored by an array of music, media and tasty allies, including Tixie, GoPro, Travel Portland, Deschutes Brewing, Stumptown Coffee, Voodoo Doughnut, 360 Vodka, and more!

So bust out your fixie, put on your finest non-prescription glasses and skinny jeans, and come out ready to dance, drink and party like it’s the 1990’s – Portland style.

East End Pop-Up Shop and Showcase (Nudie Jeans + Death & Taxes)
    Thursday March 15, 2012 12:00pm - 8:00pm @ Cheer-Up Charlies (1104 East 6th Street)

Nudie Jeans and indie music purveyors Death & Taxes hit Austin during SxSW to present ‘East End’ – a 2 day pop-up shop and multi artist showcase in East Austin.

The entrance to Cheer Up Charlie's will be transformed by the installation of a wooden cabana-style shop showcasing the eco-conscious denim brand.

Open March 15–16, 12pm–8pm, the shop will carry a tightly curated range of unisex organic denim and organic tops from the Spring Summer 2012 collection. Commemorating the Austin launch, a limited edition “Keep It Weird” (referring to Austin’s slogan ‘Keep Austin Weird’) printed organic tee-shirt will be free with every denim purchase, or available for purchase at $25. Furthermore, all sales from limited edition tee-shirts will be donated to Austin Music Foundation, a nonprofit organization which supports local musicians with educational resources. Also present will be iconic amplifier and headphones brand Marshall, with installed listening stations in the shop and exclusive headphones product available for purchase.

Artists performing at East End include Dirty Beaches, Caveman, Princeton, Dan Deacon, PAPA, Superhumanoids and more.

Complementing the organic product presented by Nudie Jeans, global leaders in water purification, Brita, will be onsite with hydration stations and reusable water bottles, to reduce plastic bottle wastage.

Alcohol is furnished by Tiger Beer and Stoli-brand Reyka Vodka.

    Friday March 16, 2012 12:00pm - 8:00pm @ Cheer-Up Charlies (1104 East 6th Street)
