As the band takes the stage, the soundman slips quietly, undetected, into position at the back of the room.

His hands hover lightly above the mass of knobs, faders, and switches that are his creative tools.

For Jay Bozich, being a live sound engineer means more than merely setting some levels and having a drink with the ladies.

He is as much a part of the creative process as the musicians that bask in the attention center-stage.

Mixing live, in the moment, adding effects, enhancing the entirety of the live music experience, and 'producing' each individual song as it happens. Jay Bozich is a master sculptor of sound

Dubbed King Fader, Bozich possesses an innate understanding of sound form and function. With remarkable precision, he expertly manipulates sound waves, persistently pushing the envelope whilst respecting the ear's boundaries. Retaining an almost psychic connection with his subjects upfront, King Fader has an uncanny ability to anticipate their needs.

Across the musical spectrum, no genre remains too esoteric for his agile ears.

In 1988 another interest was born, that of the art of blending records. Over the next several years, via painstaking hours of practice on substandard equipment set up in his bedroom, Jay crafted his skills playing DJ at the occasional school dance and spinning live free-form shifts on-air at KBOO. Encouraged by his schoolteachers and a veteran DJ at Turntable Mary's, Portland's only DJ retailer at the time, Bozich plowed on, buying records when funds became available and starting what has evolved into one of the most diverse record collections ever amassed.

Now, through his DJ alter-ego, King Fader's sardonic wit and ludic personality have found their opportunity for expression behind the turntables. Mixing an eclectic amalgam of what he likes with songs that people can recognize,

King Fader's beat matching knows no limitations. From dub to drum-and-bass, disco, new wave, and 70s and 80's funk, to house, breaks, hip-hop, glitch, dubstep, bass, IDM,and the classic rock, no musical style is left untouched.
