How are independent films developed, financed, produced and distributed? Through the unfolding story of an entirely fictitious film project, filmmakers and executives talk candidly about the all-too-real thrills, challenges and dilemmas of turning an idea into a film and successfully bringing it to the global market place. The scenarios are unrehearsed and the panelists’ decisions are live. The panel includes filmmakers, financiers, producers and domestic, international and digital distribution experts who will have no prior warning of the scenarios that will be presented to them. All the elements of the project are fictional - made-up cast, director and producer, financing partners and distributors – so panelists can speak freely about their reactions and thought processes. The Market Place Live format is intended to introduce new filmmakers to the concept of the Independent Film Value Chain. It was developed in England by Film London and Film Export UK with support from Skillset.
