Habibi is a New York City based band that includes members, Erin Campbell, Rahill Jamalifard, Lenny Lynch and Karen Isabel.
The four piece have a "Girls in the Garage" feel with sweet harmonious songs, that creep into your head and stay echoing there all week. There's a subtle Middle Eastern influence, tinged with dissonant melodies that conjure up a spooky, ethereal sound. And they still manage to make you shimmy and shake with their infectious ballads reminiscent of the band's motown roots. The term, "Habibi" translates to "my love" in Arabic and indeed, Habibi communicates the ying and yang of love, heartbreak, vulnerability and power. Their self-titled album is out now on Burger Records.
