Exposing a glimpse of a darker side on addictive third album Bad Habits, Every Avenue gives the savvy melody and musicianship they have become known for a whole new swagger. This is an act with new poise, invigorated by the thrill of making an album that every member is truly proud of. Forming in 2003 in Marysville, Michigan, Every Avenue soon gained a name for their brand of euphoric pop rock. Debut full-length Shh... Just Go With It, released in 2008 via Fearless Records, peaked at #27 on the Billboard Heatseeker’s Chart on release, it's lead single "Where Were You" receiving the backing of Mark Hoppus who featured it on his blog "Hi My Name Is Mark". Plays on Yahoo and AOL Radio, MTV The Real World/Road Rules Challenge, and winning MTVU's The Freshmen set the stage for their acclaimed 2009 album Picture Perfect. Enlisting producers Mitch Allan (Jonas Brothers, Faith Hill) and Mike Green (Paramore, Set Your Goals), the album debuted at #1 on the New Alternative Artist Chart and #136 in the Billboard Top 200. The band’s second full-length spawned hit single "Tell Me I'm A Wreck", which rode high on the Sirius Hits 1 charts in fall 2010, the video for which was named Kerrang! TV's Video Of The Week in the UK, and gained plays on MTV2. On Bad Habits, the band delves into a variety of different musical styles, held together by a spine of quality rock that has become synonymous with Every Avenue. From storming opening track "Tie Me Down", lyrically savoring the bittersweet frustration of relationships, it's clear this is Every Avenue 2.0. "Whatever Happened To You", an edgier, harder-hitting incarnation of their former selves which sees singer David Strauchman's vocals pushed to their limits, embodies the sentiment of Bad Habits: of growing older in a fickle scene, united by themes of accepting your demons, and at times reveling in them.
However, it's the two standout tracks on the album that sees their cohesive musical conflict at its peak. Sweeping, stadium-worthy ballad "Fall Apart", and pounding, gritty call-to-arms "No One But You", shows that the band are as at ease with poignant songwriting as they are with rabble-rousing hard rock tracks. “I feel on this record, we just did what we wanted, and it really paid off,” notes singer David Strauchman. ”We didn't think twice about the writing, we played with different styles - we had fun and did what felt right. We’re more proud of this record than any other we have made.” It seems fitting that the shift in sound came alongside the band's relocation to Detroit, a city used to the kind of hard graft that defines characters. With a strong sense of home instilled in them, the band has the kind of work ethic that is no stranger to those born in the environs of the Motor City. It's a theme that resonates through Bad Habits and the band's attitude to touring, having already paid their dues on the road with the likes of All Time Low, The Maine, Boys Like Girls and Never Shout Never. "Growing up in Michigan and forming the band when we did, we didn’t have a lot of bands in our genre that we could play with. We always ended up playing with metal bands,” reflects Strauchman. “I think that gave us the drive to get out and tour with bands that made sense for us. We were booking shows and tours on our own, getting paid in pizza, sleeping on floors… we did what it took. Had it not been for that, we would not be where we are today." With a full summer on the Vans Warped Tour, and a tour of North America and beyond booked for the fall, the band’s hard work has taken them to the next level. Every Avenue stands defiant, a stable of killer tracks under their belts, poised to take Bad Habits to new heights. Get ready to get addicted. Every Avenue's Bad Habits is set for release on August 2.
